Giving Birth To Powasa

Triggered by known facts and questions on the power supply in rural African areas, about the ever-lasting scarcity of water, about the dreadful childhood mortality due to diarrhoea, about women and children spending hours each day collecting water, Jürgen von Kories, the inventor of Powasa, started pondering over a solution which would ease the living conditions of rural African people.

Powasa does not claim to be a silver bullet, yet we strongly believe that the concept paves the way to power, water and sanitation for all. Sharing the concept with renowned universities, starting to discuss with equipment suppliers, spreading the idea across international development corporations, donors and institutional investors and, last but not least, talking to local NGOs, local companies and stakeholders, we found sufficient evidence that we are on the right track.

The route may be bumpy or rampant though and we are fully aware of the daunting challenge to initiate several approaches successfully and concurrently. Provided our assumptions meet reality, Powasa can empower women to search for alternative occupations instead of collecting water or firewood. And, if our concept will unfold its potential, Powasa can develop as a local solution in any geographical context which can leapfrog the living conditions of rural communities.

Since all elements constituting Powasa are scalable to any level within any rural environment, we are confident to always implement a tailored solution which meets the needs of a community.
